Getting to Provincetown has never been a quick and easy feat. Once you get to the Massachusetts and Rhode Island area, you can drive right through all of Cape Cod until arriving to the end point where this New England gay Mecca lies.

It takes about two hours and a half from Providence or Boston to P’town, this of course is without the summer traffic, which can keep you on the highway for an extra hour or two. Just under 10 square miles of land, you don’t even need a car in P’town with its several taxis, pedicabs and shuttle services throughout the two main streets; Commercial and Bradford.

Many take a fast ferry during season, mid-May to mid-October, from Boston Harbor Cruises or Bay State Cruise; both can get you there in 90 minutes. Bay State is adding a new ship to their arsenal this summer, and a new service on Mondays for those of you eager to kickoff your trip as early as possible—6:30 a.m., running from July 1st to August 26th. If you are in luck and have sunny weather, make sure to have your camera handy for beautful photos of the Massachsetts, Plymouth, and Cape Cod bays.

Now for those of you prone to seasickness, there is a new weekend train service from CapeFLYER—which provides you service from Boston to Hyannis (under 50 miles from P’town). With free Wifi, the CapeFLYER gets you to Hyannis in about two hours and a half from Boston, and then you can take a local bus from the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority to P’town and get there in under two hours (requires one transfer) or bike it in four hours if you packed light (bikes are allowed on the CapeFLYER at no extra cost).

Your last way to get up to P’town is by flying with Cape Air. A flight from Boston gets you there in 20 minutes, but if coming from New York, you can still fly there with the help of a shuttle service from Penn Station, bringing you to Westchester County Airport, where it departs from.

When to visit this summer? Well if you aren’t already making your way there for the Fourth of July festivities, which there is still time to do, catch the Annual Provincetown Bear Week starting on July 13th for some furry and/or muscle-y fun , or the famed Carnival Week from August 18th to the 24th—which celebrates its 35th anniversary with a Viva Las Vegas theme.
