Gay Las Vegas Clubs To Visit This Summer + Where To Cool Off
There are some hot new happenings and changes down in Las Vegas for this summer, and even though the golden rule is ‘what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas’, we’re here to spill!
The juiciest, and perhaps largest, addition to LGBT entertainment and nightlife in Vegas is the move of hotspot Krave to the downtown district’s historic Fremont Street at the neon-lit mall, Neonopolis. There, it’s been reestablished as Krave Massive, which has just opened its doors and will be expanding into a mega-club that will feature five uniquely themed dance rooms, reminding me of the South Beach gay party house, Twist.
Currently, only Krave Massive’s main dance room is open Thursday to Sundays, but other rooms to come include those for fans of electrco, hip-hop, country and Latin, as well as other rooms such as a private lounge with a membership program. The club will further grow to include a comedy club, an LGBT movie theatre, and an outdoor pool on the roof with cabanas—here’s hoping they add guest rooms and a gym, and we’ll have ourselves a nice big gay resort to visit.
Just a year old, downtown’s other gay hotspot is both located in Neonopolis and in the Krave family as well. The drag queen-run bar, Drink & Drag Lounge, comes with the fun twist of including bowling lanes as part of its focus, making it the only place in country where you can mingle with sassy drag queens over cocktails and the fun pastime or groove aways on the dance floor.
If your bowling skills won’t score you a strike, stop by the Fruit Loop—the name adorably given to an area not far from the strip where a few gay spots are gathered. There you will find the recently renovated club and bar, Piranha Nightclub and 8 ½ Ultra Lounge. At the lounge, the appearance is like new-age pirate cave with stone walls and leathery, fish-skin couches, where people enjoy music from top 40 hits of all decades with video screens throughout. At the club, you have two levels of rambunctious dancing and fun, and fishy onlookers judging you from their tanks.
On the west side of The Strip, Share Nightclub is still Las Vegas’ latest gay nightclub—at least terms of a completely new scene since Krave Massive is sure to bring over the Krave masses.
Similar to Piranha, Share combines both a club and a lounge environment, but also includes a strip club in the lounge. One of the more popular nights to attend is Friday for Stripper Circus, which is a party that migrated from West Hollywood. The club transforms into a big top with circus games such as “dildo toss” and “tip a tranny,” and circus-themed entertainment and dancers.
If you’re in Vegas on Sunday, visit The Beatles REVOLUTION Lounge at The Mirage Resort & Casino for its weekly gay night, Revo Sundays. Cirque du Soleil created this nightlife experience in their first endeavor at the club and lounge industry. When you step in, whether it be the purple or blue lights matching the beats and bouncing off the swanky column, or the bar’s funky wall art that appears to be rotating, you’re in for a pyschadelic treat. Definitely a Vegas must, Revo Sundays is hosted by The Light Group and is popular among the locals.
Other than clubs, countless gay events can be found throughout the year. The most recent comes from MGM Resorts, which is fabulous—no really, that’s the name! Fabulous marks its fourth anniversary this year, taking place in September during Las Vegas PRIDE (September 3-8), and the four-day party includes LGBT DJs and celebs. Entertainers last year included DJ Cazwell, Sherry Vine, Neon Hitch, Hayla, Jonny McGovern, and Los Angeles’ hysterical hot-mess duo, Jessica & Hunter.
Pool parties play a major role, and take place at Fabulous’ home base at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, as well as The Mirage and Luxor Hotel & Casino.
One of the pool parties part of the event is actually in town all summer long, and it’s the perfect spot to cool off before you head home on Monday. Luxor hosts the weekly gay pool party Temptation Sundays, also celebrating its fourth anniversary this season, offering unique themes and parties each week with VIP cabanas available for you high rollers. Party is from 1-7 p.m. each week until Pride weekend.
Make sure to tone up to enter the party’s model search contest!
