Gifts for the Outdoorsman and Adventurer – Featuring Stanley Brand
The holiday shopping season is in full force this Thanksgiving Eve! My gift guide series have hopefully inspired you for some ideas on what to get for friends, family and significant others this holiday, or maybe you even decided to pickup something for yourself—which happens to me more often than not when I shop. For this set I partnered with Stanley and its Gift of Stanleyness campaign to share my gift ideas for travelers who like the outdoors and adventure:
1. Stanley
I’ve recently started getting more into adventure and outdoors travel thanks to recent trips to Vancouver and around British Columbia this fall (details soon!), and last year when I went to the Cotopaxi in Ecuador and climbed part of a volcano. It was a memorable experience since I had never climbed before nor haven’t really done much in the outdoors before that outside of camping during my teen years in the summer and horseback trail riding in Florida. With the hopes of more outdoor and adventure travel in the future, putting together this guide inspired me to start planning some–in particular more camping and mountain exploring.
While a tent and sleeping bag are good choices for a gift for these type of travel, their uses are just limited to outdoor or overnight stays that don’t call for a bed or sofa to crash on. A more versatile choice for a gift would be one that can only not be used for an outdoor adventure, but all outdoor and life matters. Stanley products such as the Classic Stanley Vacuum Mug (great half or full day outings as it can hold 16 oz and the vacuum insulation keeps drinks hot for 6 hours and cold for 24), Adventure Stanley Flask (8 oz flask that is leakproof and features an integrated lanyard to prevent losing the cap) and Classic Stanley Pint Glass (vacuum-insulation keeps iced drinks cold up to 17 hours and hot drinks hot up to 1.5 hours, and has a built-in, removable bottle opener) can make great, life-lasting solutions for drink carrying and sipping needs while exploring the outdoors and camping, a morning’s sail and fishing, at a local sport’s game, or even for a daily commute in the city. I used these three items to also inspire selects for this guide of gifts for guys who enjoy travel and the outdoors.
2. FresheTech
An outdoor-proof bluetooth speaker is perfect for the adventurous audiophile. FresheTech’s All-Terrain Sound effortlessly will match the clean rugged look of the Stanley items, while also making its own statement with its tire-influenced design as you use its clasp to attach to the user’s backpack or duffle bag. It also effortlessly connects to a smartphone or tablet to provide high quality sound, and it is durable (dust proof and shock proof) and water resistant and has a 10-hour battery life.
3. Columbia Sportswear
New shoes should always be welcomed on one’s gift list, but a pair that will surely be appreciated for its versatile uses for outdoors and day-to-day needs is Colombia Sportswear’s Men’s Redmond sneakers in the waterproof version of the trail hikers. Light in weight, the shoes feature Colombia’s Omni-Tech of a waterproof, breathable seam-sealed construction and a combination of a suede leather, mesh and webbing for the upper.
4. Levi’s Basics
Levi’s recently welcomed a new addition to its brand family with Levi’s Basics, a line of of reengineered underwear, tees and socks inspired by classic denim methods. The ‘120 Series’ socks feature rustic patterns and are made with a quality construction of cotton, polyester, rubber and spandex. Comfortable and breathable, like mostly everything in the guide, the sock work well outdoors and for all kinds of travel.
5. Cotopaxi
A backpack is a wonderful accessory for any traveler, and can never have too many! Cotopaxi is an outdoor gear brand based in Utah that makes products designed to inspire social and environmental change. The Cusco 26L Backpack is a mid-size cotton/canvas daypack that is as versatile for both outdoors use and day-to-day. Features a suede leather bottom panel and zipper pulls, an internal 15″ laptop sleeve, adjustable chest, waist and should straps, a breathable padded backpanel and shoulder straps, and several pockets inside and out (including two bottle holders). Each different Cotopaxi gear style has its own cause, with each Cusco 26L sold providing an on-site tutor to a child for one week in Cusco, Peru. The orange style is my favorite for the color’s boldness and how it can easily match with accessories that are neutral such as gray, black and tan, but also colors such as olive like the Stanley Vacuum Mug that slipped right in one of the side pockets.
